The Republicans just can't quit. Now that they have a few concessions extracted from the Democrats over the past couple of years, its become automatic to try and try again.
Once the parties recognized that they were elected for the purpose of (other than getting rich and helping their rich friends) actually running the government. Now, not so much.
With the deadline of extending the payroll tax reduction into next year, the Republicans must have been giddy that they could now take advantage of another hostage situation. This time, they selected including a provision forcing Obama to decide on the construction of the Keystone pipeline within 60 days. (He wanted to postpone the decision until after the November election).
But Republicans simply can't help themselves anymore-any situation that requires a vote to continue the running of the government or helping the middle class is now an opportunity to extract some plum for themselves or their 1% supporters.
The idea that they should be working for the majority of US citizens has become so foreign to them it's ancient history. Stripped of their buzzwords: "job-killing" "job creators" etc., they got nothing to offer ordinary working Americans.
Just give them a gun, a deadline and a hostage and they'll be glad to show you who they're working for.
